Established in 1988, Himalayan River Runners is one of the first rafting outfits in India. HRR has many firsts to its credit from pioneering river descent in India to popularizing (Fixed base camp) rafting beach camps and the concept of minimum impact eco tourism.
Yousuf Zaheer, founder and managing director of HRR, had a passion for challenges of the great outdoors from his high school days. His exploratory mountaineering expeditions spanning two decades from the late seventies saw several first ascents and opening new routes in the Indian Himalaya. His rafting career began in 1984, being the first trained by the Americans who introduced professional rafting in India. He went on to raft internationally in the USA, Canada and captained an Indian team to the first international rafting competition in Switzerland in 1987, where India stood third overall. Today most rivers rafted in India have been pioneered by Yousuf and his HRR team.
Ganeve Rajkotia, an avid and experienced outdoors person, mother of two, is Yousuf’s better half and business partner. Besides keeping Yousuf’s feet firmly on the ground, she has provided the balance and organizational discipline to the entire HRR enterprise.
Our long-term vision encompasses integration of the various facets of adventure and eco- tourism in an enduring,k grassroots approach. By providing a platform and mobilizing resources in capacity building by training local youth in professional guiding skills and creating awareness to the bio-diversity conservation ethic.
A 'hands on' approach to each of Himalayan River Runners' several activities has
helped us fine tune our operation to offer you a holiday in the Indian Himalaya around the
